Honoring Our Veterans: Pathways’ Commitment to Care
Approximately 38,000 veterans call Weld and Larimer County home, and a significant portion of Pathways’ patients have served our country. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by veterans at the end of life, Pathways is dedicated to providing specialized care and honoring their service.
The We Honor Veterans Program
Pathways is proud to be a part of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s (NHPCO) We Honor Veterans program. This initiative, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, allows us to offer specialized care and recognition to our veteran patients.
Our goal is to create a personalized experience for each veteran, acknowledging their unique branch of service and the era in which they served. As a token of appreciation, our volunteers present veterans with certificates, pins, and hats.
Veteran Volunteers: A Special Connection
Pathways is also fortunate to have a dedicated team of over 200 volunteers who contribute to our mission in various ways. Among them, our veteran volunteers play a crucial role in providing companionship and support to fellow veterans. Through specialized training, these volunteers develop a deep understanding of the unique needs of our military service members.

Community Involvement: Honoring All Veterans
Our commitment to honoring veterans extends beyond the walls of Pathways. In addition to volunteers, we actively participate in community events dedicated to recognizing the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. By presenting certificates, hats, pins, and stars retrieved from American flags provided by Stars for Our Troops, we aim to express our gratitude to all veterans in our community.
“I am part of an American flag that has flown over the USA. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that you are not forgotten.” – a message from Stars for Our Troops
Pathways is committed to providing the highest level of care and respect to our veteran patients. By participating in the We Honor Veterans program and fostering a strong connection with the veteran community, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
