Fall 2026 Pathways InTouch: Honoring Compassion, Community and the People Who Make a Difference

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month—a time to recognize the compassionate professionals, volunteers and caregivers who support patients and families facing serious illness and loss.

For Pathways, it is also an opportunity to share the stories, people and programs that make our mission possible. Our latest issue of Pathways InTouch brings together stories of compassion, service, gratitude and community.

Understanding Hospice and Palliative Care

One of the most important messages we can share during National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is that families have options when facing serious illness.

Hospice care provides specialized support when the focus of care shifts to comfort rather than a cure. Palliative care is different: it focuses on relieving pain and other symptoms and improving quality of life at any stage of a serious illness and can be provided alongside treatment intended to cure or manage an illness.

At Pathways, our interdisciplinary team—including nurses, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and other professionals—works together to provide whole-person care while also supporting families and loved ones.

We encourage everyone to have conversations about health care wishes before a crisis occurs. Understanding your options and sharing your preferences can help ensure that future care reflects what matters most.

Honoring Those Who Served

Veterans Day holds special meaning at Pathways. Through our participation in the We Honor Veterans program, we provide care that recognizes the unique experiences and needs of veterans.

Our team takes time to learn about each veteran's branch and era of service. Volunteers also conduct recognition ceremonies, presenting certificates, pins and hats as a small expression of gratitude for their service.

These moments of recognition often open the door to stories, memories and meaningful connections.

Celebrating 25 Years of Service

This issue also introduces readers to Angie Sickmon, a Pathways Clinical Documentation Specialist who is celebrating 25 years with the organization.
Angie's career has taken her through many areas of clinical care. Her connection to Pathways began after she moved to Colorado and encountered the Hospice of Larimer County team, which later became Pathways. Inspired by the care she witnessed, she returned to school to become an RN with the goal of eventually joining the organization.

Her story is a wonderful example of what it means to build a career around a mission—and to find meaningful work in service to others.

A New Way to Give Back: Pathways Rediscovered

There's exciting news for thrift lovers in Northern Colorado!

Pathways Rediscovered, a new nonprofit thrift store from Pathways, is coming soon to Loveland at 2985 N. Garfield Avenue.

The store will offer everything from clothing and furniture to books, collectibles, home goods and unique treasures. Most importantly, purchases and donations will help support compassionate hospice and palliative care, grief support and other essential services for individuals and families throughout Northern Colorado.

Community members can also help by donating gently used items or volunteering.

Celebrating an Incredible Community

In September, Pathways hosted A Vintage Affair, a fundraiser that brought together our community for an evening of wine, beer, whiskey, gourmet appetizers and a silent auction.

Thanks to the generosity of attendees, donors and sponsors, the event raised more than $35,000 to support two important Pathways programs: the Dream Quilters and the Pathways Family Assistance Fund.

The Dream Quilters create and donate 35–40 handcrafted quilts each month for patients at the Pathways Inpatient Care Center, while the Family Assistance Fund provides grants to hospice families facing urgent non-medical expenses.

Join Us in Supporting Pathways
There are many ways to support Pathways and the patients and families we serve. One upcoming opportunity is Colorado Gives Day on December 8.

From November 1 through December 8, donations to Pathways are eligible for support through Colorado Gives Day's $1 million-plus Incentive Fund. New monthly gifts may also be eligible for an additional match through the Colorado Gives Foundation.

For 48 years, Pathways Hospice has been honored to serve our neighbors throughout Greeley, Fort Collins and Loveland. We are deeply grateful for the trust our community places in us and for everyone who helps make compassionate care possible.

Read the latest Pathways InTouch newsletter to explore these stories and learn more about our work, our people and the many ways you can be part of the Pathways community.
