Kaiser Special Services

Kaiser Special Services (KSS) is a benefit through Kaiser Permanente for Kaiser Members who have progressive, incurable illnesses including cancer, heart, and lung disease. Pain and symptom control related to physical, emotional and spiritual concerns are evaluated and managed.

Our team works together with a patient’s primary physician to address the physical, emotional, social and spiritual discomforts of an individual in the last phases of life. Our treatment goals are pain control, symptom management, quality of life enhancements, spiritual and emotional comfort for the patient and family.

Our Kaiser Special Services Social Worker visits the patient in their home to set up the plan of care. The Social Worker supports the patient and caregiver by listening and discussing difficult feelings and by assisting with practical matters such as giving resource lists of available community resources.

Our Kaiser Special Services RN will visit the patient as needed for consultation on pain and symptom management or provide education on current illness and treatment options.

Our Kaiser Special Services Chaplain will visit the patient as needed to provide spiritual support to the patient and family.

KSS is a program designed to provide consultative, short-term interventions related to end-of-life issues to Kaiser Permanente members who choose not to enroll in a Hospice Program. In some instances, KSS serves as a “bridge” to link members with the program that best meets their needs. Pathways Special Services is the contracted and preferred provider for Kaiser Special Services in Larimer County.
