Meet Pathways Volunteer

Yvonne Wootten

April is National Volunteer Month and we want to take the time to thank and introduce you to some of the wonderful volunteers at the heart of Pathways.

Only very special people can do the physical and emotional tasks involved in caring for hospice patients. The time and efforts provided by Pathways volunteers make a huge impact on the lives of our patients and their families.

Please meet Yvonne Wootten.

Role at Pathways: Volunteer, Spiritual Care

Volunteer at Pathways since: 2015

What’s a typical day like for you at Pathways?

As a spiritual care volunteer, I meet with both hospice and palliative care patients (and at times, families) both at home and in facilities. And as with all volunteers, we are a source of compassionate presence. Spiritual care conversations often explore sources of strength, life’s meaning, relationship with self and others, fears and concerns, and how beliefs impact health care decisions.

Why did you choose to volunteer at Pathways?

I volunteered for hospice prior to moving to Fort Collins. When I moved, I wanted to continue my service at the most respected organization in the area.

Favorite part about volunteering?

The knowing that this work is making a difference in the lives of others.

What do you enjoy to do outside of volunteering?

Enjoying the outdoors! Hiking, biking, and the beauty of the Rockies.
