Imagine a place. It feels like home. It’s comfortable, warm and inviting, filled with love and support.
This is no ordinary home, however. In this home, hospital-level care is available, to relieve intense pain, or to manage other symptoms. And to provide compassionate, supportive care. Now, imagine that place is here, in Northern Colorado.
And it’s ready to provide hospice support for you, your family member, or friend in a place the feels like home. This will soon become a reality as Pathways builds a 12-bed, stand-alone Inpatient Care Center to provide the highest level of care in a tranquil, beautiful space intentionally built for this purpose.
We need your help to make this vision a reality.
The need is great
Every bed at our six-bed Pathways Hospice Care Center at McKee Medical Center was full one out of every four days in 2020. Patients queued up in area hospitals waiting for a hospice bed to become available.
The need is here
Our relationship with our partners at McKee Medical Center is strong, but we want to provide our patients a more homelike setting. The new Center ensures this need will be met for generations
The need is growing
Over the next 20 years, the population of those 65 and older in Larimer County alone will grow by 140 percent. We are already experiencing the impact of that growth with a 10–15% annual increase in demand for our services.
A Place of Rest
The Center will feel like a Colorado mountain lodge, complete with natural light, stone facades, lush landscaping, and work by local artists that reflect the beauty of the communities we serve.
Each of the 12 rooms will be large enough to accommodate groups of visitors and one or two family members overnight.
Even bedbound patients will be able to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of their bed.
Two of these rooms will be equipped with negative pressure ventilation, allowing us to safely care for patients with COVID-19 and other highly infectious illnesses.
The Center will feature a spacious lobby, non-denominational chapel, areas for quiet reflection, a large communal kitchen, and gardens.
Skylights and ample windows will allow enjoyment of Northern Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine.
More than a Care Center
A stand-alone, intentionally built Inpatient Care Center will provide high quality, compassionate hospice care in a homelike setting to patients needing hospital-level treatment. It will also:
- Transform our Carpenter Road property into a campus with the full continuum of our services.
- Give families a place to visit where they can remember their loved one enjoying the natural beauty of our gardens and walkways.
- Provide our grief and loss counselors greater opportunities to meet families as they work through their personal journeys.
- Attract and welcome even more volunteers to support our patients.
- Serve as a magnet to recruit and retain the best hospice staff
in the West.
- Offer physicians in training, nursing students, and Certified Nursing Assistant trainees with valuable experiential learning.
